I am from sunshine, blue and white waving pride, and dancing on tables at empty restaurants. I am from heart pouring out, loud squirmy kisses. I am from the olive: fruit, oil and branch. I am from smashing pomegranates and counting the seeds, from Titika and Fofi and Olga.
I am from airport hugs and friendship bracelets from “drink your orange juice” and “follow your dreams”. I am from Christos Anesti and the theory of Evolution. I am from “Morning Cometh”, the Gods of Olympus, and always out of breath before I reach Mitikas. From lazy afternoons searching for “uh-ohs”, strands of grass in our teeth, speaking of “whys” and “hows”. From long underwater sea-shell hunts clasping hands (they felt like flying).
I am from glistening eyes, laughter that hurts and tears that soothe. I am from sharing a sugar bowl behind a tree hidden from view… From teenage kisses slow and sweet like molasses. I am from yearning and giving and dreaming and doing. I am from strength and resilience.
Most of all I am from love: smothering, uplifting, constant.
